Grief as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by three individuals, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose of the shooting has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Authorities revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building near the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the site overseeing the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, as per local media.
"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.
Security camera video showed a man with dreadlocks and clad in what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were recovered from the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have have information to come forward.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the attack, and police have been tracking them to determine their destination," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," she stated.
"We know he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the community to avoid sharing explicit content from the scene, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's children.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
Beyond his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, supplying high-level security services and protecting major functions across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in building administration and participated in tenant removals.

A government minister commented he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.
"He spoke his truth boldly and honestly. He even challenged me and my policies as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we must aspire to be," was his tribute.
A public representative stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A media executive noted that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a true devotee of sound and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every moment on screen. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a communication, the channel he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his legacy "will endure".
