Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the United States has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
