The Gunners' boss remains confident that his side can keep managing with fitness issues following revealing that forward Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been absent since the summer following knee surgery. Originally slated to come back at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when advancing his training and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is much more reliable and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This news creates a selection headache for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues affect defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Therefore, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the backline for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the £250m spend on squad depth during the summer has placed the club in a much stronger position to navigate such setbacks.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if a larger pool of players was aiding their title quest, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, as this campaign has seen more issues in some areas, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Addressing the delay noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the next level and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

He shared his eagerness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, personally, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his nature. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”

“His availability record is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I look forward to get him back with the squad and playing because I think it’s going to be a huge lift.”
