Supporters Call for Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are demanding that a individual who breached a barricade and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating footage depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account includes videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a legal violation," stated an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more comment on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Numerous of fans had gathered in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, securing several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
