The English Team to Begin the European Championship 2028 Quest at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The English squad will initiate their Euro 2028 journey at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they attain the anticipated passage for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.
Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an Three Lions match since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to host the Three Lions for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.
The team are planned to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top Group B, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean beginning the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Launch and Demonstration
The championship was launched at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday night. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the host football associations were confronted as they entered the venue by around fifty protesters, who urged Israel to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.
Placards were raised with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Fixture List
The opening game of the tournament will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a game that will include the Welsh team if they make it.
The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract families and help connect with a broader range of viewers.
Qualifying Teams
The Irish team are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the qualification path.
Venues and Elimination Phase
Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight staged at the national stadium of each host.
The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in Belfast, which was removed as a venue city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on December 6, 2026.
