Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
