The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
