This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who are fans of horror films: Settle in with your loved one and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it might appear like standard physical horror, but beneath Together resides a deep meditation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a particular energy to their roles, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The narrative commences when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the rural area for her career. A commonly used plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim tumble into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence takes hold of the pair. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in bits of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a emotional and physical gap. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his floundering music career inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and far away from his network of friends. He is terrified of the idea of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters grapple with the kind of problems that arise in any relationship after ten years. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. Conversely, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your significant other and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu as of this moment.
