Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.
The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
Now that Season 1 of the popular program wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction
One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“The experience is akin to an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”
“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Will the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.
“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
